Born This Way Lyrics

It doesn’t matter if you love him or capital H-I-M
Just put your paws up
‘Cause you were born this way, baby

My mama told me when I was young
We are all born superstars
She rolled my hair and put my lipstick on
In the glass of her boudoir

There’s nothin’ wrong with lovin’ who you are
She said, ’cause He made you perfect, babe
So hold your head up, girl and you you’ll go far
Listen to me when I say

I’m beautiful in my way
‘Cause God makes no mistakes
I’m on the right track, baby
I was born this way

Don’t hide yourself in regret
Just love yourself and you’re set
I’m on the right track, baby
I was born this way, born this way

Ooh, there ain’t no other way, baby, I was born this way
Baby, I was born this way
Ooh, there ain’t no other way, baby, I was born this way
I’m on the right track, baby, I was born this way

Don’t be a drag, just be a queen
Don’t be a drag, just be a queen
Don’t be a drag, just be a queen
Don’t be

Give yourself prudence and love your friends
Subway kid, rejoice of truth
In the religion of the insecure
I must be myself, respect my youth

A different lover is not a sin
Believe capital H-I-M
I love my life, I love this record and
Mi amore vole fe yah

I’m beautiful in my way,
‘Cause God makes no mistakes
I’m on the right track, baby
I was born this way

Don’t hide yourself in regret,
Just love yourself and you’re set
I’m on the right track, baby
I was born this way

Ooh, there ain’t no other way, baby, I was born this way
Baby, I was born this way
Ooh, there ain’t no other way, baby, I was born this way
I’m on the right track, baby, I was born this way

Don’t be drag, just be a queen
Whether you’re broke or evergreen
You’re black, white, beige, chola descent
You’re Lebanese, you’re orient

Whether life’s disabilities
Left you outcast, bullied or teased
Rejoice and love yourself today
‘Cause baby, you were born this way

No matter gay, straight or bi
Lesbian, transgendered life
I’m on the right track, baby
I was born to survive

No matter black, white or beige
Chola or orient made
I’m on the right track, baby
I was born to be brave

I’m beautiful in my way
‘Cause God makes no mistakes
I’m on the right track, baby
I was born this way

Don’t hide yourself in regret,
Just love yourself and you’re set
I’m on the right track, baby
I was born this way, yeah

Ooh, there ain’t no other way, baby, I was born this way
Baby, I was born this way
Ooh, there ain’t no other way, baby, I was born this way
I’m on the right track, baby, I was born this way
I was born this way, hey
I was born this way, hey
I’m on the right track, baby, I was born this way, hey

I was born this way, hey
I was born this way, hey
I’m on the right track, baby, I was born this way, hey

So.. YOU ALL ARE BORN SUPERSTARS. There is nothing wrong with who you are. You all are beautiful in your own way. Just LOVE & BELIEVE IN YOURSELF GUYS

Book’s Review – Love, Aubrey

Love, Aubrey

Suzanne Lafleur

Published 2009       256 pages

I  haven’t suffered the kind of loss that Aubrey has, but it seems to me that this is as real and wrenching a portrayal of grief as I have ever read. But never fear, this book is about more than Aubrey’s loss. She gains a friend and a school community and develops a truly special relationship with her Gram. Aubrey’s mother? There’s plenty of hope for her as well, even if the situation is far from ideal.

Highly recommended for you who read realistic fiction

Book’s Review – Let The Right One In

“This vampiric love story is full of blood-curdling shocks – but it will also make you swoon with sadness and sigh with happiness”.

Let The Right One In

John Ajvide Lindqvist

Published 2007      513 pages

Summary (from the book cover)

Oskar and Eli.  In very different ways, they were both victims.  Which is why, against the odds, they became friends.

And how they came to depend on one another, for life itself.

Oskar is a 12 year old boy living with his mother on a dreary housing estate at the city’s edge.  He dreams about his absentee father, gets bullied at school, and wets himself when he’s frightened.

Eli is the young girl who moves in next door.  She doesn’t go to school and never leaves the flat by day.  She is a 200 year old vampire, forever frozen in childhood, and condemned to live on a diet of fresh blood.

The Review

John Ajvide Lindqvist’s novel Let The Right One In, was a bestseller in his native Sweden, now translated (by Ebba Segerberg) into English it is available for readers in both the UK and the US.  Confusingly the UK and US versions are published under two different titles, with the American version of this novel entitled “Let Me In” rather than “Let The Right One In.”

Let The Right One In is an unusual blend of social novel and vampire horror.  Set in the early 1980s in a depressed suburb of Stockholm it makes for bleak, yet compelling, reading.  Every character seems to have a dreary existence, where the boredom is only alleviated by alcohol, drugs, glue-sniffing or shop lifting and petty theft depending on the characters’ personal preference.  Even Eli (the vampire) has a dreary existence, except that occasionally she gets to go out and kill someone for blood, but even this more of a chore than an exciting interlude for her.

Oskar is terribly bullied at school and this makes for some uncomfortable reading. The petty cruelties inflected upon him by the bullies have isolated him from children his own age, and this is why he makes friends with Eli, another isolated outsider, so easily.  Eli encourages Oskar to stand up to the bullies and fight back – but this only leads to escalating violence.

Possibly the most disturbing part of Let The Right One In is Håkan, the man who looks after Eli and procures blood for her.  He is a paedophile and by turns a character that is both disgusting and pitiful.  Eventually Håkan becomes a zombie paedophile which is disturbing on a whole new level.  An undead zombie paedophile oozing corpse juice with a permanent hard-on is just nasty.

All the vampire clichés are thrown away with Let The Right One In.  Eli never really talks about her life as a vampire and although she does share her memories of how she became a vampire with Oskar, these are very brief and raise more questions than they answer.  Ultimately, this novel is more about the lives of the people living around the vampire than the vampire itself.

The violence in the novel is gory and shocking; probably it seems more shocking because of the mundane and dreary everyday setting of this book.

By turns brilliant and repulsive, compelling and uncomfortable Let The Right One In is a thought provoking read that will stay with you long after the novel itself has been read. Whether you want zombie paedophiles stuck in your imagination is for you to decide!

John Christopher or Johnny Depp

Born June 9, 1963. Depp was born in Owensboro, Kentucky, the son of John Christopher Depp, Sr., a civil engineer, and his wife, the former Betty Sue Wells, a waitress. He has one brother, Daniel, who is a novelist, and two sisters, Christie (now his personal manager) and Debbie. His parents divorced when he was a teenager and his mother married, as her second husband, Robert Palmer (died 2000), whom Depp called “an inspiration to me”.

With the gift of a guitar from his mother when he was 12, Depp began playing in various garage bands. His first band was in honor of his girlfriend, Meredith. A year after his parents’ divorce, Depp dropped out of high school to become a rock musician. As he said on Inside the Actors Studio, he attempted to go back to school two weeks later, but the principal told him to follow his dream of being a musician.

On December 24, 1983, Depp married Lori Anne Allison, a makeup artist and sister of his band’s bass player and singer. During Depp’s marriage, his wife worked as a makeup artist while he worked a variety of odd jobs, including a telemarketer for pens. His wife introduced him to actor Nicolas Cage, who advised Depp to pursue an acting career. They divorced in 1985. Depp later dated and was engaged to Sherilyn Fenn (whom he met on the set of the 1985 short film Dummies). Both Sherilyn Fenn and Depp auditioned for the 1986 film Thrashin’ and they were both cast, with Depp being chosen by the film’s director to star as the lead, which would have been Depp’s first major role. Depp was later turned down by the film’s producer who rejected the director’s decision.

CAREER

Depp’s first major role was in the 1984 horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street, playing the heroine’s boyfriend and one of Freddy Krueger’s victims. Depp was the first choice and was cast to star in the now classic, 1986 American skater drama film Thrashin’. In 1986, he appeared in a secondary role as a Vietnamese-speaking private in Oliver Stone’s Platoon. In 1990 he undertook the quirky title role of the Tim Burton film, Edward Scissorhands. The film’s success began his long association with Burton.

MUSIC

As a guitar player, Depp has recorded a solo album, played slide guitar on the Oasis song “Fade In-Out” (from Be Here Now, 1997), as well as on “Fade Away (Warchild Version)” (b-side of the “Don’t Go Away” single). He also played acoustic guitar in the movie Chocolat and on the soundtrack to Once Upon a Time in Mexico. He is a friend of The Pogues’ Shane MacGowan, and performed on MacGowan’s first solo album. He was also a member of P, a group featuring Butthole Surfers singer Gibby Haynes and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea. He has appeared in Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ music video “Into the Great Wide Open”.

TATTOOS

Well there’s around 13 tattoos, many of them signifying important persons or events in his life. They include a Native American in profile and a ribbon reading “Wino Forever” (originally “Winona Forever”, altered after his breakup with Winona Ryder) on his right biceps, “Lily-Rose” (his daughter’s name) over his heart, “Betty Sue” (his mother’s name) on his left biceps, and a sparrow flying over water with the word “Jack” (his son’s name; the sparrow is flying towards him rather than away from him as it is in Pirates of the Caribbean) on his right forearm.

FOLKLORE

Folklore consists of legends, music, oral history, proverbs, jokes, popular beliefs, fairy tales and customs that are the traditions of that culture, subculture, or group. It is also the set of practices through which those expressive genres are shared.

The study of folklore is sometimes called folkloristics. The word ‘folklore‘ was first used by the English antiquarian William Thoms in a letter published by the London Journal in 1846. In usage, there is a continuum between folklore and mythology. Stith Thompson  made a major attempt to index the motifs of both folklore and mythology, providing an outline into which new motifs can be placed, and scholars can keep track of all older motifs.

Folklore can be divided into four areas of study: artifact (such as voodoo dolls), describable and transmissible entity (oral tradition), culture, and behavior (rituals). These areas do not stand alone, however, as often a particular item or element may fit into more than one of these areas.
